Having your own personality gives you and your business more identity, enabling your audience to distinguish you from your competitors.
It builds you and your business a strong reputation.
Look at Apple computers, for example. They aren’t actually better than other PCs (despite what many Apple devotees believe).
They are even priced higher than a other brands with comparable specs.
However, they use a different operating system (even though they can’t natively run some software).
They’re not better — just different.
Another example is Gordon Ramsey.
There are a lot of professional and awesome chefs around the world.
But why did he stood out?
Because viewers identified him as a chef who gives tough love.
He spews brutal comments and feedbacks to his crew and apprentices, but Ramsey is like that to push them and bring out the best they can be.
You don’t necessarily have to follow what Apple or Gordon Ramsey did, the point is, you need to have or do something different from others that will leave a great impression to your audience.
If you haven’t figured out what personality you want to reflect on your business, you can start by putting together your personal brand and from there, you can get a feel of your own unique personality that will be reflected on your business.

2. Niching down
The usual mistake of small businesses is doing everything by selling too many products and trying to target every type of audience.
Niching down is something every new small business should do.
A niche is a specific portion of the market that is easy to target.
This means you are specializing in offering products that focus on the needs of a specific customer group.
It is also advantageous to you because large companies are often unable to address specific needs because they sell a wide range of products to all types of audiences.
On top of that, when you are able to understand your niche, it will help you to effectively marketing your business online.
Take note that your brand’s online visibility is more achievable in your niche.

3. Be visible
Talking about your brand’s visibility, making yourself visible everywhere is also important to make you stand out.
In making an effective marketing, you need to put your brand in as many places as possible.
To keep your awareness at the highest level, you need to be where your customers are.
Below are the platforms where you can increase visibility:
- Facebook Ads
- Google Ads
- organic social media
- search engine optimization
- email marketing
- public relations
- TV commercial
- networking
- phone
- display ads
- direct mail
- Podcast (as guest and/or presenter)
- video marketing
- your blog
Ideally, you should be in 3-5 platforms.
But when you are just starting out, it’s ok to choose one platform and master it.
Then, as you become an expert of your chosen platform, you can add more platforms where you promote your brand.
